A Basement Retreat for Grown Folks Only

Residential | Child-free Entertainment Space

This wasn’t a renovation—it was a reclamation.

After years of the basement being overtaken by toys, craft supplies, and chaos, these parents were ready to take their space back. Our task? To transform a kid-dominated lower level into a grown-up escape: part lounge, part speakeasy, and part podcast studio—with zero trace of juice boxes in sight.

The design balances intimacy and indulgence. Deep velvet seating anchors the room in moodiness, while layered lighting—sconces, uplights, and a moody backlit bar—sets the scene for cocktail hours, late-night convos, and off-duty moments. Materials were selected to feel tactile and timeless: wood grain, matte black fixtures, and soft textiles that age well with use and memory.

Tucked behind the main lounge is a custom studio space designed for the wife, a podcast host and creative professional. Acoustic treatments were seamlessly integrated into the aesthetic, blending function with the elevated feel of the rest of the lounge.

This is a grown-up sanctuary—discreet, refined, and finally off-limits to the under-10 crowd.
